Key facts about the exam

DELF A1 is the first level of the Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française. It is issued by CIEP (Centre International d’Études Pédagogiques), now France Éducation International. It is an internationally recognized diploma, certifying a beginner’s level of French.
Corresponds to level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CECRL). Evaluates four skills: oral and written comprehension, oral and written production. Tests last around 1h20 in total, with an oral interview lasting 5-7 minutes.
Registration with approved examination centers, cost varies by country. The exam takes place over one day, with group and individual tests. Score out of 100, with a minimum of 50/100 required to obtain the diploma.
Officially validates initial skills in French. Useful for a first professional experience or a short stay in a French-speaking country. Encourages further learning at higher levels.
